Dr. Arnold
I have 25 years of experience as a Counseling Psychologist and have lived on Oahu since 2020. I have been in private practice since 2016. Prior to 2020, I lived in Texas and worked as an Associate Professor at the University of Texas Health San Antonio. In my research, I focused on treatment interventions and psychosocial issues for individuals on the bipolar disorder spectrum. Courses I taught to psychology and psychiatry residents included a range of psychotherapy techniques and interventions. In all of my roles in academia I highlighted the impact of cultural and socioeconomic diversity on mental health.
My psychotherapeutic expertise spans various modalities, with a particular focus on group therapy, mood disorders, and long-term therapeutic interventions. My priority is to individualize treatment interventions for each client, as each person comes to treatment at different phases in their life, with their unique strengths and challenges. Thus, my belief is that there is no specific psychotherapy which is the most beneficial. Psychotherapy models I often use include, behavioral, psychoeducation, cognitive, dialectical, mindfulness, interpersonal, family/couples models, and psychodynamic psychotherapies.
In Hawaii, I am leading in-person psychotherapy groups in east Honolulu (Hawaii Kai) with unique themes: Emotional Health, Relationships, Young Adults and Mood Disorders. Groups will consist of up to 8 participants and last one year.
